Friday's Rugby Face is an original art project by Ronnie which features internationally capped men's rugby players (chosen from his followers' suggestions each week).
Original mixed media artwork by Ronnie McInnes No.5 - Doddie Weir © 2020.
Friday's Rugby Face is about celebrating some important players, big characters or inspirations from men's rugby union. Partly influenced by Pop Surrealism, I usually tie something into the narrative that has been inspired by video games.

The artwork was made by using a combination of long exposure (light painting) photography and digital art techniques. This is the fifth piece from the project and features Scotland rugby player - Lock - Doddie Weir.

Doddie is a former Scottish internationalist and British and Irish Lion. Here I present him jumping in a lineout in front of a tartan pattern inspired by his charity My Name'5 Doddie tartan. Doddie was diagnosed with MND and he has raised millions for My Name'5 Doddie.

Doddie was once described by legendary rugby commentator Bill McLaren as a Mad Giraffe. So through the help of a friend's suggestion, I decided on the video game The Last Of Us which actually features some giraffes. The giraffe is very significant to the narrative here. Doddie always strikes me as a man who embraces the good and the bad, even daft monikers. So, he reaches for the mad giraffe to embrace it. It's all water off a duck's back anyway.
